Study Skills Coach

To coordinate and develop academic activities, to promote positive study skills and increase academic attainment and progression.

The post is 30 hours per week Monday to Friday 9.00am – 3pm

The role involves, but is not limited to the following:

  • To work with students to develop academic skills, learning strategies and personal skills that will facilitate student success
  • To be aware of students with additional learning needs and work with the support team to identify appropriate learning strategies
  • To record student progress, achievement and attendance and provide reports and feedback to learners, tutors and other appropriate staff
  • To support students to reach their academic goals and to provide constructive feedback on progress and achievement
  • To support students to use specialist aids, equipment and resources when appropriate
  • To develop materials/resources and undertake relevant administrative and clerical duties

Essential Qualifications, Skills & Experience are:

  • Relevant Level 3 Qualification and/or relevant experience
  • Level 2 Maths and English (GCSE or equivalent)
  • IT literate to level 2 (with working knowledge of MS Word)
  • Basic Skills 9297 Level 2 (or equivalent)
  • Experience of working with Youth Services and engaging with students
  • Able to work independently, use own initiative and to prioritise work
  • Able to foster good working relationships with staff and learners
  • Excellent numeracy/literacy/note taking and communication skills
  • Able to respect confidentiality and be empathetic to learners needs in relation to support & personal care

NB: The equivalent rate of pay is £11.25 per hour

  • Candidates must be fully compliance checked and must be registered with the EWC (as FE Support Worker) prior to commencement.
