Specialist SEND Teaching Assistant Resource Base (Mainstream Primary)

Prospero Teaching is currently recruiting for Specialist SEND Teaching Assistants to work within SEND Resource Bases (HUBs) attached to mainstream primary schools across the Birmingham area.

Location: Central Birmingham
Position: Specialist SEND Teaching Assistant
Hours: 8:30 am 3:30 pm, Monday to Friday (term time only)
Type of Work: Supporting pupils with complex SEND needs within a Resource Base in a mainstream primary school
Contract/Position Start Date: ASAP
Contract Type: Long-term, Short-term, and Daily Supply
Full Time/Part Time: Full time
Minimum Rate of Pay: Negotiable

About the Role:

These roles involve working closely with small groups of pupils who have complex and diverse needs including Autism, speech and language difficulties, sensory processing challenges, and SEMH. Youll be part of a structured, supportive team helping children thrive in a tailored learning environment.

We have flexible opportunities available including long-term, short-term, and daily supplyideal for experienced SEND support staff or those seeking to expand their experience in specialist provisions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support pupils with EHCPs in a small-group setting within the Resource Base
  • Implement structured learning activities and assist with access to the curriculum
  • Use SEND-specific strategies and tools (e.g. visual timetables, PECS, Makaton, sensory interventions)
  • Collaborate with class teachers, SENCOs, and external professionals
  • Promote independence, emotional regulation, and positive behaviour

Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Experience supporting pupils with Autism, speech and language needs, or SEMH
  • Familiarity with specialist teaching strategies and behaviour support tools
  • A patient, empathetic, and proactive approach
  • Teamwork and excellent communication skills
  • A relevant qualification (e.g. CACHE Level 2/3) is desirable

Requirements to Work with Prospero Teaching:

  • Hold Right to Work in the UK
  • Hold a valid, enhanced child barred list DBS on the Update Service (or be willing to obtain one)
  • Provide two child-related professional references covering the last two years
