SEN Teaching Assistant

Specialist SEMH School, Wigan

£450-£550 per week

08:30-15:30, Mon/Fri

Full-Time

Are you passionate about supporting young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs?

Do you have the resilience, empathy, and commitment to help pupils overcome barriers to learning?

Are you looking for a rewarding role where every day you can make a genuine difference?

A specialist SEMH school in Wigan is seeking a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team on a full-time basis. This is a long-term opportunity within a highly supportive and structured alternative provision setting.

The Role – SEN Teaching Assistant

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will support pupils with a range of complex needs including SEMH, trauma-related behaviours, ADHD, and additional learning difficulties. Many pupils have experienced disrupted education, so the role requires patience, consistency, and strong relationship-building skills.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing 1:1 and small-group support
  • Supporting behaviour regulation using consistent strategies
  • Assisting teachers in delivering tailored lessons and interventions
  • Encouraging positive engagement with learning
  • Acting as a trusted adult and role model for pupils

This role involves working with small class sizes in a highly structured environment designed to promote emotional regulation, resilience, and academic progress.

What’s on Offer

  • Full-time, long-term SEN Teaching Assistant role
  • Weekly pay of £450-£550
  • Specialist SEMH training and behaviour management support
  • Small class sizes and strong staff-to-pupil ratios
  • Supportive leadership and therapeutic approach
  • Excellent preparation for careers in education, psychology, youth work, or social care

Ideal Candidate – SEN Teaching Assistant

  • Experience working with young people (education, care, youth work, or similar)
  • Calm, resilient, and emotionally intelligent
  • Strong communication and de-escalation skills
  • Passion for supporting vulnerable learners
  • Team player with a proactive attitude
  • Right to work in the UK

Previous SEMH experience is desirable but not essential – attitude, patience, and commitment are key.

This SEN Teaching Assistant role in Wigan offers a unique opportunity to positively impact the lives of young people who need consistent support and strong role models.

If you are ready for a challenging yet deeply rewarding role, apply today.
