Pastoral Teaching Assistant

Prospero Teaching are looking for a passionate and resilient Pastoral Teaching Assistant to join a dedicated Alternative Provision based in Wimborne, Dorset. This provision supports young people who may be disengaged from mainstream education and present with SEMH needs, challenging behaviour, and other additional needs.

This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference by helping students re-engage with learning, build positive relationships, and achieve both academic and personal growth.

As a Pastoral Teaching Assistant you will work closely with pupils both on-site and off-site, providing 1:1 and small group academic and pastoral support. Your focus will be on supporting pupils emotional wellbeing and fostering positive attitudes toward learning. The role includes:

Supporting students within lessons and in alternative environments to develop positive behaviours and coping strategies.

Planning and delivering bespoke interventions, both educational and therapeutic in nature.
Working collaboratively with school staff, parents, and external agencies to implement tailored support plans.
Accompanying and supervising students on off-site educational visits and outreach sessions.
Providing consistent encouragement, boundaries, and motivation to help students thrive.

Contract Details:

  • Location: Wimborne, Dorset
  • Position: Pastoral Teaching Assistant
  • Type of Work: Academic & Pastoral Support / Behaviour Intervention
  • Start Date: September 2025 or sooner
  • Contract Type: Permanent
  • Full Time/Part Time: Full-Time
  • Daily Pay Rate: £18,000-£25,000

Experience, Training, and Qualifications Required:

  • Experience working with young people with SEMH/behavioural needs or in an Alternative Provision setting is highly desirable.
  • A genuine passion for supporting disengaged learners and those at risk of exclusion.
  • Ability to build trust and rapport quickly with students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Resilient, flexible, and proactive approach to behaviour management and mentoring.
  • Relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 3 in Education/Youth Work, Team Teach, or ELSA) are desirable but not essential.

To Be Eligible You Must:

  • Hold the Right to Work in the UK
  • Hold a Full UK Driving Licence, own a car, and have Business Car Insurance
  • Hold an Enhanced Child Barred List DBS certificate registered with the update service or be willing to apply for a new one
  • Provide two professional child-related references
