Key Responsibilities

  • Provide day‑to‑day pastoral support to pupils with a range of SEN needs (including ASD, SEMH, MLD, SLD, and complex needs).

  • Support behaviour management strategies and contribute to personalised behaviour plans.

  • Monitor attendance, punctuality, and welfare concerns, escalating issues appropriately.

  • Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils, offering guidance, mentoring, and emotional support.

  • Work collaboratively with the safeguarding team, following school policies and procedures.

  • Liaise with parents/carers and external professionals to ensure consistent support for pupils.

  • Contribute to a positive, safe, and inclusive school culture.

Essential Requirements

  • Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN (school, alternative provision, youth work, or similar).

  • Strong understanding of safeguarding, behaviour support, and pastoral care.

  • Ability to remain calm, empathetic, and solution‑focused in challenging situations.

  • Excellent communication and relationship‑building skills.

  • Confident working as part of a multidisciplinary team.

  • A valid Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).

Desirable Qualifications

  • Training in Safeguarding, Team Teach, MAPA, or other behaviour‑support approaches.

  • Relevant qualifications such as:

    • Level 3/4 in Supporting Teaching & Learning

    • Youth Work qualification

    • Counselling skills

    • Psychology, Social Work, or Education‑related degree

  • Experience in specialist or alternative provisions.
