KS3/4 Pastoral Mentor – Temp to Perm – ASAP

STARTING IMMEDIATELY, FULL TIME

Prospero Teaching is looking for a Pastoral Mentorto join one of our Alternative Provisions, at a school near Wigan. This school is a specialist provision for young people who need a little bit of extra support and who will hopefully return to mainstream education in the near furture. Students at this school can create challenges regularly, but staff who are calm, patient, resilient and caring will make huge differences in this setting. Especially if you commit to the role in its entirety, as the continuity makes a very positive impact on the children individually and collectively.

Responsibilities in the role:

  • To support all students throughout the school in a 1:1, whole class support or outside the class capacity
  • To give the pupils the chance to either get back into mainstream schools or progress into a sustained Post 16 pathway
  • To Contribute to a positive ethos for learning
  • To promote the values and achievements of the school to the community
  • To be aware of and follow the company Equality, Safeguarding and Health and Safety Policies
  • Have and create high expectations of staff and students

The expectations of the role:

  • Assist the teacher with writing and monitoring pupil learning plans.
  • Review and implement interventions which enable pupils to understand and meet their targets.
  • Support with the delivery of learning activities in the absence of the teacher.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with other practitioners, drawing on their strengths and expertise to best support teaching and learning.
  • Adapt to pupil and school requirements on a day to day basis. 
  • Work with all staff to address pupils’ barriers to learning.

CONTRACT/POSITION DETAILS

  • Location – Wigan
  • Position – Pastoral Mentor
  • Type of work – Temp to perm
  • Start date – ASAP
  • Full time
  • Hours – 8:20 am – 4:00pm

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • English & Maths GCSE at a minimum of grade C or 4
  • Previous experience working in an educational setting or equivalent
  • Previous experience working with vulnerable people
  • Up to date Safeguarding training issued in the last year (essential, training can be provided)
  • Up to date Prevent awareness training issued in the last 3 years (essential, training can be provided)

TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR THIS ROLE THROUGH PROSPERO TEACHING, YOU MUST:

  • Hold Right to Work in the UK
  • Hold an enhanced child barred list DBS certificate registered with the online update service or be willing to process a new application
  • Provide two professional child related references
