HLTA VACANCY – PORTSMOUTH (PO2)

Prospero Teaching are currently recruiting for an enthusiastic and experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join our client Primary School based in Portsmouth (PO2). Within this role, you will be working across all year groups from Pre-School to Year 6. If you’re an experienced LSA/TA and keen to take the next step by achieving your HLTA qualification, we’d love to hear from you too!

Job Details:

  • Location: Portsmouth (PO2)
  • Start Date: September 2025
  • Contract Type: Full-time
  • Pay Rate: Minimum £16 per hour
  • Hours: 8:30 am – 3:30 pm (May Vary)

We’re looking for someone who:

  • Has experience supporting children’s learning, development, interaction, and communication needs.
  • Thrives on building strong relationships with children, colleagues, and parents through excellent communication skills.
  • Works effectively as a team player while being confident working independently when required.
  • Is flexible and ready to step into the classroom at short notice when staff absences arise.
  • Demonstrates initiative, proactivity, and a keen understanding of confidentiality and safeguarding procedures.
  • Is confident covering PPA across the school, including our Pre-School, and can plan tailored support for individual children’s needs.

Your role will include:

  • Leading whole-class sessions in the absence of the class teacher.
  • Using specialist skills to enhance pupils’ learning experiences.
  • Collaborating with teachers on lesson planning and personalised learning provisions.
  • Observing and evaluating pupils’ responses and progress during activities.
  • Implementing curriculum programmes at the whole-class level and addressing pupil needs without direct supervision.
  • Assisting in the creation of engaging learning environments and ensuring alignment with school, national, and statutory policies.

Eligibility:

  • Right to work in the UK.
  • Hold an enhanced child barred list DBS certificate registered on the update service (or willingness to apply for one).
  • Provide two professional child-related references.
