A specialist SEN school in Blackburn is seeking a proactive and dedicated Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant to support pupils with a range of needs, including SEMH, Autism, ADHD, and communication difficulties. This is an excellent opportunity for graduates considering careers in Educational Psychology, Therapy, Social Work, or SEN Education.

The Role – Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant

As a Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work with pupils across Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, delivering 1:1 and small-group support to help them access learning and develop positive behaviours.

A key part of this role involves supporting behaviour management, using structured and consistent strategies to help pupils regulate emotions and engage with their education. You will build strong, trusting relationships and act as a positive role model, providing stability, encouragement, and clear boundaries.

You will support pupils with needs including SEMH, ADHD, Autism, and trauma-related behaviours, helping them overcome barriers and build confidence both academically and socially.

Ideal Candidate – Graduate SEN Teaching Assistant

  • Graduate (2:1 or above preferred, Psychology desirable)
  • Resilient, confident, and comfortable managing challenging behaviour
  • Experience in SEN, youth work, sports coaching, or care highly desirable
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Passion for supporting vulnerable young people
