Cover Supervisor – Southampton

Prospero Teaching is recruiting confident and adaptable Cover Supervisors to work in secondary schools across Southampton. This role involves stepping into the classroom during teacher absence, delivering the work that has already been set, and ensuring students remain focused and engaged throughout the lesson.

This position is ideal for individuals who enjoy working with young people and are comfortable managing a classroom environment. It suits graduates, aspiring teachers, tutors, coaches, mentors, or anyone with experience supporting young people who is looking to gain valuable school‑based experience.

Opportunities are available on a full‑time, part‑time, or day‑to‑day basis depending on availability.

The Role:

  • Supervise classes using pre‑prepared lesson materials
  • Maintain classroom behaviour in line with school expectations
  • Support students with understanding tasks and staying on track
  • Provide classroom cover across a range of subjects
  • Work with students across KS3 and KS4
  • Respond to both pre‑booked and short‑notice cover requirements
  • Ensure safeguarding and school policies are followed at all times

Ideal Candidate:

  • Experience working with young people (schools, youth work, tutoring, coaching, mentoring, etc.)
  • Confident managing a classroom independently
  • Clear communicator with strong organisation skills
  • Calm, flexible and professional in approach
  • Able to adapt quickly to different subjects and year groups
  • Graduates and aspiring teachers encouraged to apply

Contract Details:

  • Position: Cover Supervisor
  • Location: Southampton
  • Start Date: ASAP
  • Working Pattern: Full‑time, part‑time or day‑to‑day cover
  • Pay Rate: Up to £130 per day
  • Year Groups: KS3-KS4

Experience, Training & Safeguarding:

  • Experience working with young people is essential
  • Classroom or behaviour‑management experience advantageous
  • Safeguarding training can be provided

Eligibility:

  • Right to work in the UK
  • Enhanced DBS (or willingness to obtain one)
  • Two relevant references
