Behaviour Support Assistant – Burton
Location: Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire
Hours: Monday to Friday, variable depending on student needs

Daily rate: £85-£120 dependent on experience (term-time only)
Contract: Temporary and Permanent Positions Available

Are you passionate about supporting students with challenging behaviours and social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs? Prospero Teaching is recruiting for Behaviour Support Assistants to work at a Pupil referral unit base in Burton. This Pupil Referral Unit (PRU) supports the education of students aged 11-16 who may not thrive in a mainstream school setting due to behavioural difficulties or other barriers to learning. The school has three sites across Burton and Uttoxeter and focuses on providing a structured, nurturing environment where every student is encouraged to realise their potential and achieve both socially and academically.

Job Description: As a Behaviour Support Assistant, you will play a crucial role in promoting positive behavior and engagement among students. Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Working one-on-one or in small groups with students, helping to develop their confidence, resilience, and social skills.
  • Assisting in the implementation of behaviour management strategies tailored to each student’s individual needs.
  • Providing emotional support and building trusting relationships with students who may have experienced trauma or social difficulties.
  • Supporting teachers in delivering a flexible curriculum, which may include life skills, social-emotional learning, and core academic subjects.

Requirements:

  • Experience working with children or young people with challenging behaviours or SEN.
  • A calm and patient demeanour, with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • A genuine passion for supporting students to overcome barriers and succeed.

What We Offer:

  • Flexible working arrangements with both permanent and temporary contracts.
  • Access to continued professional development (CPD) courses in behaviour management, trauma-informed practice, and safeguarding.
  • The opportunity to work in a highly supportive environment with small class sizes and a focus on holistic student development.

To Be Eligible for This Role Through Prospero Teaching, You Must:

  • Hold the right to work in the UK.
  • Have an enhanced child DBS certificate registered with the update service, or be willing to process a new application.
  • Provide two professional references covering the last two years in child-related roles.

Apply today through Prospero Teaching and help us create a safe and inclusive space for young learners.
