ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

Prospero Teaching is seeking a creative and empathetic Art Therapy Tutor to deliver bespoke 1:1 therapeutic education packages to young people in Havering, Barking, and Dagenham who are currently unable to access mainstream education.

This Outreach Tutor role is ideal for someone with experience in art therapy or creative education, looking to support students with SEN and SEMH needs through expressive, engaging activities. The purpose of this role is to provide young people with a safe and supportive space in which they can be creative, explore emotions, develop self-awareness, build coping strategies, boost self-esteem, and improve social skills-both verbally and non-verbally.

Sessions will include activities designed to:

  • Explore emotions, self-regulation, and coping strategies
  • Improve motivation to initiate and sustain social contact with peers
  • Enhance thought and problem-solving skills

Creative techniques may include:

  • Colouring, collage, scribbling
  • Drawing, finger painting, painting
  • Photography, sculpting etc

Other therapies that may be incorporated include:

  • Dance Therapy, Drama Therapy
  • Expressive Therapy, Music Therapy, Writing Therapy

CONTRACT/POSITION DETAILS

  • Location – Havering, Barking & Dagenham
  • Position – Art Therapy Tutor
  • Type of work – Contract
  • Start date – ASAP
  • Duration / Likely Duration – Dependent on each student
  • End date (if applicable) – N/A
  • Contract type – Temporary
  • Full time/part time – Part time (10-15 hours per week)
  • Minimum rate of pay – £25 per hour
  • Hours – Sessions range from 1 to 3 hours each

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • QTS, QTLS, PGCE or relevant Art Therapy qualification
  • Minimum 6 months experience working with children or young people in a UK setting
  • Experience supporting SEN and SEMH needs
  • Up-to-date Safeguarding training

TO BE ELIGIBLE FOR THIS ROLE THROUGH PROSPERO TEACHING, YOU MUST:

  • Hold Right to Work in the UK
  • Hold an enhanced child barred list DBS certificate registered with the online update service or be willing to process a new application
  • Provide two professional child-related references covering the last two years
