SEMH 121 teaching assistant – Nelson – October 24

Prospero Teaching are looking for a learning support assistant / 121 teaching assistant to cover a long term role supporting a student on a 121 basis who has Social, Emotional Mental Health needs. The role will start as soon as possible after the October half term break and will continue on an ongoing basis until the end of the current academic year.

The school is a small facility that is part of a large mainstream school but is not attached to the main school, they offer a supportive and varied curriculum to learners aged 11 – 16.
The role is to work closely with the individual, and you will be helping them with all subjects, and to help them with access to their curriculum and maintain a positive attitude towards their studies.

You will be required to be able to commit to the role on a full time basis and be consistent with the behaviour policy of the unit. You will need to build a relationship as quickly as possible with the pupil you are supporting and you will have help and supervision from teaching staff and senior leadership.

They will focus on a reduced curriculum and in particular key subjects such as Maths, English and Science so a strong background in these subjects is essential.

* Hours 8.30am 4pm, Monday Friday

Experience, Training & Qualifications

* Recent safeguarding course issued in the last year (essential, however we can provide training)

* Recent prevent awareness training, issued in the last 3 years (essential, however we can provide training)
* Recent experience of supporting primary aged pupils with SEMH/EBD

* Strong academic background in Maths, English & Science

* Strong behaviour management, training can be provided

To be eligible for this role through Prospero Teaching, you must:

* Hold right to live & work in the UK
* Hold an enhanced DBS certificate that is on the update service or be willing to process a new application
* Provide two professional references
