Cover Supervisor – Portsmouth

Prospero Teaching is recruiting confident and reliable Cover Supervisors to work in secondary schools across the Portsmouth area. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to gain valuable classroom experience while supporting students and schools on a day‑to‑day or long‑term basis.

As a Cover Supervisor, you will be responsible for supervising classes in the absence of the regular teacher, ensuring students remain engaged with their learning and complete the work that has been set. You will play a key role in maintaining a positive learning environment and supporting high standards of behaviour across the classroom.

This role is ideal for graduates, aspiring teachers, sports coaches, youth workers, tutors, and experienced education professionals looking to build their experience within secondary education.

The Role:

• Supervise classes across KS3 and KS4 in the absence of the class teacher
• Deliver pre‑prepared lesson materials and instructions
• Ensure students remain focused and engaged with their learning
• Manage classroom behaviour in line with school policies
• Support students with lesson activities where appropriate
• Cover a range of subjects across the secondary curriculum
• Provide feedback to teaching staff regarding lesson outcomes
• Maintain a safe, structured, and positive learning environment
• Follow safeguarding and school policies consistently

Ideal Candidate:

• Experience working with young people
• Confident leading groups of students independently
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Calm, professional, and adaptable approach
• Excellent classroom management abilities
• Able to build positive relationships with students and colleagues
• Graduates and aspiring teachers encouraged to apply
• Previous experience in education, coaching, tutoring, or youth work beneficial

Contract Details:

• Position: Cover Supervisor
• Location: Portsmouth
• Start Date: ASAP
• Working Pattern: Full‑time or flexible opportunities available
• Pay Rate: Up to £130 per day
• Key Stages: KS3 & KS4

Experience, Training & Safeguarding:

• Experience working with young people essential
• Classroom experience beneficial but not essential
• Safeguarding training can be provided
